Friday 16th December 9.00-9.30am
Thank you to all the parents that attended the previous morning!
Please come in to school again and share a book with your child. We are trying to encourage a love for reading and promote positive attitudes towards reading and learning.
Autumn 1 Week 6 10.10.16
Literacy – We are reading the book ‘The Village that Vanished’ by Ann Grifalconi. This week we will be writing a diary entry from the point of view of the main character. Children will be including the key features of a diary. We will also be completing comprehension sessions as well as spellings and handwriting.
Maths – We will be focusing on column addition and subtraction for 3 - 4 digit numbers. Watch the clip below on help to support your child at home.
Please remember that homework is due on Wednesday and given out on a Friday.
Reading books will be changed when your child’s book and their signed reading record is in the reading box. Please tell them if their book is in their bag as sometimes they say it isn’t when it is. We remind the children everyday but the aim is that they become independent and responsible.
Spelling tests are on Wednesday – please practise with your child. The words given out are the words they have to be able to spell in year 3. The children feel proud when they can see they have done well in the tests.
Please remember to give your child a water bottle to come to school. They get thirsty during the day and if they don’t have a bottle we send them to the water fountain in the playground which takes time away from their learning.
Toys are not allowed at school. Any toys will be taken in and returned to your child at the end of the day.
If you have any concerns you would like to talk with me about - please wait until I have dismissed all the children or you could pass me a note or make an appointment through the school office or teaching assistants in the morning.
Finally, please be patient at the end of the day when I call the children out to you. There are lots of you and only one of me. Sometimes I might not see you, please accept my apologies but it is not on purpose!
Welcome to Year 3!
I hope you had a fantastic summer and I hope you are all looking forward to the new term!
The team in Year 3 Hawthorn are:-
Miss Gill - Class teacher
Mrs Denton - HLTA
Mrs Chohan - Teaching assistant
This week we will be settling back into school life. We will be putting our class charter together - thinking about what we need to do in order to make year 3 successful. We will also recap on spelling, grammar and punctuation after the long summer break. We will also be recapping on place value and some number work.
I will add some pictures of the children's first days back as the week goes on!
