Spring 1 Week 1 and 2
7.1.19 - 18.1.19
English – This week we will be focusing on a story called 'The Night Pirates'.
Maths – We will be focusing on 2D and 3D shapes.
Science – We will be continuing our unit on Animals including Humans. We will be looking at the animals and their features.
Autumn 2 Week 7
English – This week we will be focusing on poetry. We will be writing acrostic poems about winter.
Maths – We will be continuing with subtraction. This week we will subtracting a one-digit number from a two digit number.
Science – We will be starting our unit on Animals including Humans. We will be looking at the human body and labelling body parts.
Autumn 2 Week 6
English – This week we will be starting a new book called ‘The Snowman’ by Raymond Briggs. The original story has no writing so we will be writing the words.
Maths – We will be starting a new topic on subtraction. We will be learning how to take away from a group of objects.
Science – We will be finishing off our unit on Light and starting a new unit called Animals including Humans.
Topic – We will be thinking about seasons and daily weather patterns. We will be comparing the seasons and discussing how they change.

Please bring your book bag with reading books to school daily.
Our PE day is Tuesday; please make sure you have your full kit on your
peg every day.
Please carry on reading for at least 30 minutes a day to an adult at home.
Spelling tests will take place on Wednesday afternoons.
There is a great emphasis on phonics in year 1 due to a phonics screening test at the beginning of June 2019. This is a yearly check that is done in all schools. Below are some useful websites/resources you can use to help support your child in phonics.
There are different phases of sounds that your child will be tested on during the screening check. Please practice the phases and tricky words below as much as you can with your child.
