We are looking forward to learning together in Year 1.
Please come to school ready to learn and to do your best.
Remember to bring a water bottle to school every day and to wear your PE kit every Thursday.
Homework books are sent home every Friday and must be handed in the following Tuesday.
To begin with, there will be a greater emphasis on numbers to 10, particularly around place value. When the children are introduced to a new concept, they will have the opportunity to build competency by using concrete objects and manipulatives to help them to understand what they are doing. Children will need to be able to count forwards and backwards to 20 and then 100.
Children will continue to develop their Phonics skills so that and they will be able to apply these skills in their reading and writing. We will use high-quality texts to inspire our writing and to develop our reading skills further.
This term we will be studying Everyday Materials, such as wood, metal, plastic, glass and fabric. We will recognise the materials used to make objects and begin to describe the properties of these materials.
This term the children will be studying Dinosaurs and a significant person in History, Mary Anning.
This term, children will look at Christianity, and Health and Wellbeing.
The children will be making art inspired by Wassily Kandinsky.
This term the children will be working on singing, finding the pulse, and appraising different songs.
PE kit needs to be worn to school every Thursday. Remember to bring a suitable water bottle to take to these lessons.
Homework will be given out every Friday and should be completed and returned the following Tuesday. If you or your child need any assistance or have any questions regarding the homework, please see the class teacher.
