Summer 2 Week 6

English – We will be starting our final book by author Anthony Browne, called ‘Silly Billy’. We will be finding out about worry dolls and retelling the story.

 

Maths – This week we will be having special lessons that have been planned by some of the children in Key Stage 2. They have planned lessons for year 2 with Mrs Tyndall and will be delivering them this week.

 

Wednesday 10th July – Home Learning Gallery

This will be in the hall after school. Please make sure you have brought your bean diary in by Tuesday 9th July.

 

Thursday 11th July – Sports Morning

Please come to school in your team colour t-shirt, shorts and PE shoes. Remember to bring a water bottle and sun hat and apply sunscreen before school if it is sunny.

Summer 2 Week 5

English – This week we be will looking at comics. We will be planning our own comic strip and using the computers to make them.

 

Maths – We will be recapping time and looking at telling the time to the nearest five minutes.

  

Topic- We will be looking at maps and creating our own key based on the symbols we find.

 

Science – We will be thinking about the conditions that seeds need to be planted in and when sunlight is important.

Summer 2 Week 4

English – We will be continuing with the book ‘The Tunnel’. We will be planning and writing the story.

 

Maths – We will be continuing with position and direction, focusing on learning the correct vocabulary and following instructions.

  

Topic- We will be using maps of our local area and giving directions to different locations, this links to our maths lessons.

We will also be using chalks and oil pastels to create art work.

English – We will be starting the book ‘The Tunnel’ by Anthony Browne. We will be thinking about how the characters feel and alternative endings.

 

Maths – We will be learning position and direction and recapping number skills.

  

Topic- We will be moving on to think about the geography of Acton and our local area.

 

Science – We will be observing the seeds that we planted in school and thinking carefully about the most suitable conditions for them to survive.

English – We will be writing our advertisements based on the advert in ‘Willy the Wimp’.

 

Maths – We will be learning about capacity and how to measure quantities of liquids. We will be measuring using millimetres and litres.    

  

Topic- We will be finishing off our plans for writing letters and thinking about how to layout our letters.

 

Science – We will be thinking about how seeds and bulbs grow into plants and the conditions they need to survive.

Summer 2 Week 1

English – We will be looking at stories by Anthony Browne over this half term. We will be starting with ‘Willy the Wimp’.

 

Maths – We will be learning about temperature and how to read a thermometer.    

  

Topic- We will be thinking about the workshop at St. Dunstan’s Church and the facts we learnt about Acton.

 

Science – We will be comparing seeds, bulbs and beans and making observational drawings.

English – We will be starting a new book called ‘The Mousehole Cat’. We will be looking at the language used to describe the weather and setting and writing our own descriptions.

 

Maths – We will be continuing with position and direction and recapping word problems involving money.   

  

Topic- We will be writing a letter about how Acton has changed over time using the plan we created to help us.  

 

Science – We will be recapping the parts of a plant and what plants need to survive.

 

On Tuesday 21st May we will be visiting St. Dunstan’s Church to take part in a workshop to celebrate its 140th birthday. The workshop will link to our history topic about Acton over time.

Summer 1 Week 4

English – We will be looking at contractions and how to use apostrophes correctly in our writing.  We will be writing instructions about how to grow plants.

 

Maths – We will be learning how to tell the time (o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to). We will also be learning about position and direction and turning.   

  

Topic- We will be creating plans for writing a letter about how Acton has changed over time based on the research we carried out.

 

Science – We will be starting our new unit for the rest of summer term, Plants. We will be thinking about what we already know and what we would like to find out.

English – We will be focusing on inference skills and different types of questions. We will also be looking at different suffixes we can use in our writing.

Topic- We will be researching Acton over time online and describing how it has changed. We will be working with a partner.

 

Science – We will be finishing off our unit on Living Things and their Habitats and summarising what we have learnt.

Topic- We will be researching Acton over time by looking at photos and describing how it has changed.

 

Science – We will be thinking about habitats and their food chains. We will be learning producers, prey and predators.

English – This week we will be starting a new book called ‘Room on a Broom’. We will be retelling the story and writing our own versions.

 

Maths – We will be learning how to find fractions of amounts this week. We will be practising some test-style questions and worded problems.

  

Topic- Our topic this term will have a history focus, we will be looking at how Acton has changed over the last 100 years.

 

Science – We will be continuing our unit on ‘Living Things and their Habitats’. We will be looking at habitats and thinking about survival.

 

Please remember to have correct PE kit in school for PE lessons on Wednesdays.

Maths – This week we will be learning about symmetry and shape patterns.

  

Topic- We will be using maps to locate cities and rural areas. We will be looking at the different features and comparing them.

British Science Week

To celebrate British Science Week we have been involved in lots of science work and investigations this week. Chestnut class really enjoyed launching our own rockets. We have been researching space and finding out what it would be like to become an astronaut.

English – This week we will be writing our own stories, following the theme and events in ‘Jamela’s Dress’. We will be planning and editing our own work.

 

Maths – We will be continuing our unit on geometry by looking at 3D shapes. We will be naming, identifying and describing their properties.

 

This week we will be celebrating British Science Week. We will be carrying out activities based on ‘Journeys’, as well as our usual science lesson.

 

Science – We be looking for mini beasts in different habitats and recording our findings using a pictogram.

Topic – We will be reflecting on our trip and thinking about the life of Samuel Pepys. We will be thinking about the influence he had and how he helped to change the course of history.

Our school trip to Gunnersbury Park is on Thursday 31st January. We will be taking part in a Great Fire of London workshop to find out what life was like in 1666.

Maths –We will be starting a unit on statistics. We will be looking at different ways of recording and presenting data, such as tally charts, bar charts and pictograms.

 

Science – We will be discussing the importance of exercise for humans. We will be carrying out difference exercises and monitoring the effects on our bodies.

 

Topic – This week we will be looking at what life was like in London in 1666. We will be comparing the houses, buildings, people and transport.

Enrichment Afternoon - This Friday we will be having a go at learning new skills in our class. We will be learning Arabic calligraphy with Mrs Samatar and Mrs Dualeh.

 

DT Week – This week is design technology week. We will be cooking Scottish Oatcakes. We will be designing them, writing recipes, baking and evaluating the process.

English – This week we will be starting a new book called ‘Dear Teacher’. We will be becoming familiar with the story and letter writing.

 

Maths – We will be starting a new topic on multiplication this week. We will be learning that the ‘x’ symbol means groups of. We will be looking at the 2x and 5x times tables.

 

Science – We will be finishing off our unit on Forces and starting a new unit called Animals including Humans.

 

Topic – We will be planning to write a leaflet all about Scotland and South Africa. We will be thinking about all the information we have learnt and selecting the most suitable facts.

This week Chestnut class was visited by London Fire Brigade. We learnt all about what to do in emergency situation. Here are our top tips:

-Learn your full address, including the postcode

 

-Emergency services phone number is 999

 

-Make sure you have a working smoke alarm at home

 

-Always blow out candles when you leave a room

 

-Adults should put water in to ash trays to make sure cigarettes are put out completely

 

-Create a fire escape plan – we have learnt what to do depending on the type of building you live in and where the fire is

 

-Always tidy away toys and clothes as they can block escape routes

This week we will be carrying out assessments to see what the children have learnt so far in Autumn 2. We will be assessing English reading, writing and SPaG and maths.

 

Science – We will be planning an information poster all about forces.

 

Topic – We will be comparing daily life in Scotland and in South Africa. We will be thinking about where people live, what jobs people do and what school life is like for children.

Topic – We will be looking at the environment in Scotland and South Africa. We will be comparing photos and looking at maps. We will also be researching the weather.

 

This week is Anti-Bullying Week. We will be learning about what bullying is and how to make sure bullying does not happen in our school. We will be doing lots of work in our class and with other classes on this.

Topic – We will be finding out where Scotland and South Africa are in the world. We will be naming the seven continents, five oceans, countries and capital cities.

This Thursday we will going on our trip, please make sure that you in school on time as we will be learning promptly after registration.

You must wear your school uniform but a weather appropriate jacket and footwear is recommended.

Please bring a healthy packed lunch (no nuts, sweets or chocolates) and plastic water bottle.

Topic – This week we will be looking at the types of food Stone Age people ate. We will be learning about hunter-gatherers, how they hunted and the weapons they used. We will be learning about the types of foods gatherers foraged for and designing our own Stone Age menu.

Maths – We will be continuing with place value. This week we will focus on ordering and comparing numbers. We will need to use vocabulary such as greater than, less than, most and least. We will be using the <, > and = symbols.

 

Science – We will be walking around our school grounds to identify different materials and thinking about their properties.

 

Topic – This week we will be looking at the types of homes Stone Age people lived in. We will look at how they changed over time and how they compare to the homes that we live in today.

Our PE day is Tuesday; please make sure you have your full kit on your peg every day.

Please bring your book bag with reading books to school daily. Please carry on reading for at least 30 minutes a day to an adult at home.
