East Acton Primary School "Growing Together"

Year 4 Holly

Welcome to Year 4 Holly's class page.

This term our topic is: Industry in Acton

Over the course of this term the children will be learning about Industry in Acton. We will be looking at how industry has changed Acton since the 1800s and what is still around us today.

This term the children will be learning about sound and how it travels. So far we have look at the way that different objects create sound through vibrations.

Over the coming weeks will be looking at: fractions

The focus will be drawing equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator, and finding fractions of amounts.

Over the coming weeks we will be looking at: Matilda

The children will be reading Matilda by Roald Dahl.

Matilda is a little girl who is far too good to be true. At age five-and-a-half she's knocking off double-digit multiplication problems and blitz-reading Dickens. Even more remarkably, her classmates love her even though she's a super-nerd and the teacher's pet. But everything is not perfect in Matilda's world. For starters she has two of the most idiotic, self-centered parents who ever lived. Then there's the large, busty nightmare of a school principal, Miss ("The") Trunchbull, a former hammer-throwing champion who flings children at will and is approximately as sympathetic as a bulldozer. Fortunately for Matilda, she has the inner resources to deal with such annoyances: astonishing intelligence, saintly patience, and an innate predilection for revenge.

Each week the children will be given spellings and reading. Please can you ensure that you are writing in the reading records to show that you have heard your child read.

Please watch these videos for Maths as we have been looking at measures this week and converting between g to kg, m to km and seconds to minutes.

Please play this fun game at home with your child.

We will be having PE on a Thursday afternoon. Could you please ensure that your children have the correct PE kit and it is clearly all names in a named bag. It is really important that the children stay hydrated so could you also please give your child a water bottle that is name.
