At East Acton Primary, the safety and well-being of every child is our highest priority. Staff and Governors fully recognise that children may be vulnerable to various forms of abuse and may be affected by a range of adverse social factors, including domestic violence, substance misuse, bullying, mental health challenges, and radicalisation.
We understand that safeguarding concerns can arise in any setting, and all staff are trained to remain vigilant and responsive to potential signs of harm. We are committed to creating a culture where pupils are listened to and taken seriously.
Our curriculum actively promotes the values of safety, happiness, and emotional well-being. We encourage children to recognise that all concerns—no matter how big or small—are valid, and to feel confident in sharing them with a trusted adult at home, at school, or through support services such as Childline.
Our safeguarding responsibilities are supported by a comprehensive set of policies and procedures, including our Child Protection Policy, which is available in the policies section of our website.
All staff receive regular training in Safeguarding and Child Protection and are clearly identified to children as safe adults they can turn to. Staff are also trained to identify signs of physical or emotional abuse or neglect and are required to report concerns to a member of our safeguarding team. When concerns arise about a child's welfare, we may need to share information and work collaboratively with external agencies. In such cases, we aim to involve parents and carers wherever it is appropriate to do so and will only withhold information where it is deemed to be in the best interest of the child. We also actively support the Government's Prevent strategy as part of our duty to protect pupils from the risks of radicalisation and extremism.
Together, we are committed to ensuring a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where every child can thrive.

Online Safety
At East Acton Primary School, all staff and governors are aware of their responsibility to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the pupils and that this includes online safety. In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE, 2024), this also includes an understanding of the expectations, applicable roles, and responsibilities in relation to filtering and monitoring.
All pupils and staff, including volunteers are expected to sign Acceptable Use Agreements to demonstrate their commitment to responsible use of Technology and safeguarding.
Child on Child Sexual Abuse and/or Harassment
Dedicated NSPCC helpline 0800 136 66
This helpline provides both children and adults who are potential victims of sexual abuse in schools with the appropriate support and advice. This includes how to contact the police and report crimes if they wish. The helpline also provides support to parents and professionals. See our safeguarding policy for our procedures.
Peer on peer sexual abuse and harassment is not acceptable and not tolerated. Sexual harassment refers to unwanted conduct of a sexual nature that occurs online or offline. Sexual harassment violates a pupil’s dignity and makes them feel intimidated, degraded or humiliated, and can create a hostile, sexualised or offensive environment. If left unchallenged, sexual harassment can create an atmosphere that normalises inappropriate behaviour and may lead to sexual violence.
Sexual harassment could include:
Prevent Strategy
Prevent is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorist or extremist causes. Many of the things we do in school to help pupils become positive, happy members of society also contribute to the Prevent strategy.
Key terms:
Extremism - vocal or active opposition to fundamental British values such as democracy, the rule of law and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.
Ideology - a set of beliefs
Terrorism - a violent action against people of property, designed to create fear and advance a political, religious or ideological cause.
Radicalisation - the process by which a person comes to support terrorism or extremism
