East Acton Primary School "Growing Together"

ECO School

We are Proud to be an ECO School!

At East Acton, we believe that caring for our planet and respecting one another go hand in hand. Well done to all our staff, pupils, and the whole school community for working so hard last year to achieve our Eco-Schools Award!

As both an ECO School and a Rights Respecting School, we are committed to creating a community where every child learns to value themselves, others, and the world around them.

Through our actions and learning, we empower pupils to make positive changes - in our classrooms, our community, and globally - helping to build a fairer, safer, and more sustainable future for all.

Our Commitment

Being an ECO School means we take active steps to protect our environment while promoting respect, equality, and responsibility. Sustainability and children’s rights are woven into our everyday school life through:

  • Recycling and waste reduction: We use recycled materials, minimise plastic use, and encourage reusable containers to protect the planet’s resources.

  • Energy conservation: Students and staff take part in energy-saving challenges and monitor classroom energy use to reduce our carbon footprint.

  • Outdoor learning: Our school garden and green spaces offer pupils hands-on experiences with nature and biodiversity, deepening their respect for all living things. Across the school, learning has been linked to key Eco-Schools topics including Biodiversity, Energy, Waste, Marine, Transport, Healthy Living, and Global Citizenship.

  • Eco projects and clubs: Our enthusiastic Eco Warriors Committee - made up of students and staff - leads projects such as tree planting, and environmental awareness campaigns, such as Cut the Carbon Campaign and Solar Aid project.

We are extremely proud of how well our students have engaged with these important themes and the positive difference they are making for our planet. These actions support children’s rights, particularly the right to a clean and safe environment (Article 24 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child).

Learning for the Future

Sustainability and global citizenship are at the heart of our curriculum. Through subjects like science, geography, and PSHE, pupils explore key issues such as climate change, renewable energy, and social justice.

Our learning links directly to the United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development, particularly:

  • Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

  • Goal 13: Climate Action

  • Goal 14: Life Below Water

  • Goal 15: Life on Land

  • Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

  • Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals

By understanding these global challenges, our pupils develop the knowledge, confidence, and empathy to become responsible global citizens who can make a real difference.

Working Together

Our success as an ECO and Rights Respecting School is built on teamwork and community spirit. We work closely with parents, local organisations, and environmental partners to create lasting, positive change. Every small action matters - and together, we are helping to achieve a fairer and greener world for everyone.

Our Vision

We aim to continue growing greener every year - reducing waste, protecting wildlife, and inspiring environmental leadership among all our students.

At East Acton, we believe that by learning, acting, and working together, we can make our world a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable place to live and learn.

Together, we can make a difference.

Together, we can make our world a cleaner, greener place to live and learn.
